Elections

The elections for the LAEWCU Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee will be held at the Annual Meeting on February 28, 2025, at 5 p.m., at 3820 E. Colorado Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91107.

Candidate Statements

L.A. Electrical Workers Credit Union members in good standing have the opportunity to serve on the Board of Directors or the Supervisory Committee. These positions are critical for the governance and oversight of the credit union. These are the open positions and the candidate statements for each one.

Board of Directors (2 Vacancies, 3-year Term)

Citlali Castillo (Incumbent)

I, Citlali Castillo, am a member in good standing with the LAEWCU. I am currently sitting as Secretary to the Board of Directors. I have sat on this board since 2022. During my term, I have learned how the Credit Union operates and the benefits it has for our members. Being part of the board, we review our financial statements at our monthly meetings as well as review loans as needed. During my time on this board, I have participated in BSA Training and Strategic Planning Training.

On a local union level, I served a term as Recording Secretary for our Unit 9 board. I have been part of our Welfare Committee, which also reviews finances, sales, merchandise, and loans on a monthly basis. I am part of the Sound & Communications Unit 9 of our local, and being part of the board has given me the opportunity to understand the differences in how it’s set up for our different classifications. I have seen the Credit Union make positive changes during my term and would like to continue to be part of this.

Verenize Hoskins

My name is Verenize Hoskins, and I am a journey-level Sound and Communication member [card number redacted]. I am writing to express my interest in being considered for a position on the Board of Directors for the upcoming 3-year term.

As a dedicated and engaged member of the union, I am focused on promoting trust, transparency, and inclusivity within our credit union. I am eager to contribute to its continued growth and success by becoming more actively involved in union affairs. Serving on the Board will not only broaden my understanding of the credit union’s operations, but also allow me to better communicate the valuable services available to our members.

In addition, I bring a fresh perspective as a younger member of the union, offering diverse insights and a willingness to learn. I am dedicated to making meaningful contributions and approaching my responsibilities with enthusiasm, an open mind, and a commitment to our shared goals.

Thank you for considering my candidacy. I look forward to the opportunity to serve and support the continued success of our union.

Ruben Mendoza (Incumbent)

As a current member of the Credit Union Board, I am seeking re-election. I humbly accepted an appointment to the Board in May 2024.

I have worked with the district 4 Welfare Committee in the capacity of reviewing finances, ordering merchandise, and helping members who have fallen on challenging times.

Since my appointment, I have reviewed Credit Union finances, loan applications as well as exam findings from DFPI and NCUA. The current Board has been working to ensure that we are up to par.

I have also completed BSA training and participated in strategic planning at the most recent Board conference.

As an IBEW Local 11 member and as a member of the Credit Union, I have witnessed how we have been able to help members in times of need.

In these past 7 months I have learned a great deal about the Credit Union and its functions. I hope to continue to advance my knowledge on how this great Credit Union can benefit its members.

Board of Directors (1 Vacancy with an Unexpired 1-year Term)

George Lopez (Incumbent)

Hello, my name is George Lopez. I am an Inside wireman and 8-year member IBEW Local 11. I have been an active member of Local 11 for most of my career. My involvement includes being an active and consistent member of many groups, caucuses, unit meetings, general meetings, and as a job steward on multiple occasions. In nearly all instances I have stepped into a leadership role as an officer: President of RENEW, executive committee member of EWMC, and Recording Secretary of District 6. On top of this all, I was appointed as a board of director for LAEWCU this past year.

During my time on the board so far, I have taken part in trainings that will further my knowledge of credit union business. This training taught me and our current board members about the BSA (Bank Secrecy Act). This deals with money laundering and other illegal activities. Knowing this information gives us the ability to help keep our credit union secure. I have also been a part of a strategic planning meeting with the rest of the board where we discussed the future of the credit union and how to better serve our members. The current board and I developed a plan, vision, and goals at this meeting. All of which I would like to follow through with. To do so, I ask for your consideration to continue my work as a director.

Edson Morgan

I am writing to give notice of my interest in becoming a nominee for the Board of Directors: 1 unexpired 1-year term.

I have been a rank-and-file member for over ten years and have had a checking and savings account with our credit union for seven. Through the credit union as an apprentice, I have purchased and paid off one vehicle, and as a journeyman, I’m currently financing another. I believe my experience as a job steward and on the executive board of the EWMC makes me uniquely qualified for this position.

I understand the responsibility of representation and the commitment and importance of this position. This is a great opportunity to not only learn more about the LAEWCU but to give back to the union, which has given so much to me.

Supervisory Committee (1 Vacancy with a 3-year term)

Gaylord “Rusty” Roten

I, Gaylord “Rusty” Roten, would like to submit my name for consideration of election to the Supervisory Committee of the L.A. Electrical Workers Credit Union. I have previously served on the Credit Union’s Board of Directors for many years until I resigned in the summer of 2016. I went on to run for elected office in Local 11 and became President of Local 11 in July of 2018. I served as President for the Local for 6 years and served on all committees and Trusts.

I was asked if I would consider serving on the Supervisory Committee and I am responding with this letter. If elected to the Supervisory Committee, I would give my best effort to serve the members of the Credit Union, the Board of Directors, and the management team in all its present and future goals.
